Course

This year’s race features a fast, four-corner, 0.7 mile course that runs counter-clockwise through the streets of downtown Burien. The road surface is smooth with a slight rise through the start/finish.

Parking

Park in the lots at the Burien Transit Center, which just south of SW 148th Street and very close to the race course (the start/finish is on SW 152nd Street, next to the Library and City Hall). Please be courteous to the arriving parade watchers and locals.

Note: If your vehicle is parked inside the parade route and you do not move your car before noon, you will have to wait until the 4th-of-July parade ends (~5pm) to move your vehicle.

The current Points Leader and all competitors wearing a Points Leader Jersey will be called up at the beginning of each race in which he/she is a competitor to be acknowledged and start at the front of the peloton. Points are accumulated in individual races within each Cascade Criterium Series Points Races and are not transferable between series races. The first leader’s jersey will be awarded at the Taco Time Volunteer Park Criterium during the series, with the final Jersey awarded at the Redmond Derby Days Criterium to the racer having the most points in that Points Series Race. Jersey’s will be awarded at podium presentations and Points Leaders must be present to receive their Jersey’s.

About the Major Taylor Project

MTR-Ride-Kids.jpg

Named after African-American world champion cyclist Marshall “Major” Taylor, the Major Taylor Project (MTP) is an outreach by the Cascade Bicycle Club aimed at empowering youth through bicycling. At after-school bicycling clubs MTP students explore their communities, build confidence, and discover their power to effect change.

The Major Taylor Project reaches more than 500 youth annually in central and south King County and in Pierce County. In these areas, residents speak over 70 languages and represent over 80 nationalities. Club locations are intentionally established to reach youth in low-income and diverse neighborhoods. The Major Taylor Project has established after school clubs at over a dozen schools in the south end, including Highline, Evergreen, Foster and Tyee High Schools.
