This year’s race features a fast, four-corner, 0.7 mile course that runs counter-clockwise through the streets of downtown Burien. The road surface is smooth with a slight rise through the start/finish.

Park in the lots at the Burien Transit Center, which just south of SW 148th Street and very close to the race course (the start/finish is on SW 152nd Street, next to the Library and City Hall). Please be courteous to the arriving parade watchers and locals.

Note: If your vehicle is parked inside the parade route and you do not move your car before noon, you will have to wait until the 4th-of-July parade ends (~5pm) to move your vehicle.

Cascade Criterium Series Points Competition

Cascade Criterium Series Points Competition presented by Voler with additional sponsorship from Ogden Murphy Wallace Attorneys will continue this year including the Ballard Criterium, Taco Time Volunteer Park Criterium, Seabrook Criterium, Riverbend WSBA State Championship Criterium, Tacoma/Proctor Criterium, B-Town/Major Taylor Criterium, and Redmond Derby Days. The 2017 and 2018 jersey winners are invited to wear their leader’s jersey at all races during the 2019 competition.

Points will be awarded to the first ten finishers: 5,4,3,2,1,1,1,1,1,1. In the event of a tie, the racer with the highest position in the current race is declared the Points Leader. The current Points Leader and all competitors wearing a Points Leader Jersey will be called up at the beginning of each race in which he/she is a competitor to be acknowledged and start at the front of the peloton. Points are accumulated in individual races within each Cascade Criterium Series Points Races and are not transferable between series races. The first leader’s jersey will be awarded at the Taco Time Volunteer Park Criterium during the series, with the final Jersey awarded at the Redmond Derby Days Criterium to the racer having the most points in that Points Series Race. Jersey’s will be awarded at podium presentations and Points Leaders must be present to receive their Jersey’s.

WSBA Junior Championship

The B-Town Criterium is the 2019 WSBA Junior Championship. Thanks to support from our partners Absolute Mortgage and JLVelo, category winners will be awarded a champion’s jersey at the race finish. Any junior who lives in Washington, Oregon & North Idaho and is a USAC member is eligible to win a WSBA championship jersey. Medals will be awarded to the top five finishers in each age category: A 17-18, B 15-16, C 13-14, and D 11-12. Combined age groups are scored separately.

About the Major Taylor Project

Named after African-American world champion cyclist Marshall “Major” Taylor, the Major Taylor Project (MTP) is an outreach by the Cascade Bicycle Club aimed at empowering youth through bicycling. At after-school bicycling clubs MTP students explore their communities, build confidence, and discover their power to effect change.

The Major Taylor Project reaches more than 500 youth annually in central and south King County and in Pierce County. In these areas, residents speak over 70 languages and represent over 80 nationalities. Club locations are intentionally established to reach youth in low-income and diverse neighborhoods. The Major Taylor Project has established after school clubs at over a dozen schools in the south end, including Highline, Evergreen, Foster and Tyee High Schools.
